Do you know what to do if someone is having a heart attack?

First aid saves lives, but it’s completely normal to feel unsure in the moment. That’s why we’re continuing our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) video series, helping you feel more confident in emergencies with clear, practical advice from our expert trainer, Nigel Davis.

This week’s FAQ: What should you do if someone is having a heart attack?

This is a question that often comes up in our training sessions, and it’s a vital one.

The answer? Call 999 straight away, help the person to stay calm and still, and be ready to provide further help if needed.

Nigel explains in the video that staying calm and acting quickly are key. If the person becomes unresponsive, you may need to start CPR and use a defibrillator if one is available.

Key takeaway: If you suspect a heart attack, don’t wait – call 999 and support the person until help arrives.

More FAQ videos coming soon!

Over the coming weeks, Nigel will be answering more common first aid questions – from where you can find a defibrillator, the differences between adult CPR and child CPR and what to do when someone is having a seizure.
