Ensuring the safety and well-being of children in childcare settings is paramount. One crucial aspect of childcare is being prepared to handle medical emergencies effectively. Understanding which first aid course is necessary for childcare providers is essential for maintaining a safe environment for children. Let’s explore the different first aid courses tailored for childcare professionals:
-
1-Day Paediatric Emergency First Aid:
This course is designed to provide childcare providers with essential first aid skills to respond to emergencies effectively. Topics covered may include CPR for infants and children, choking relief, basic wound care, and recognising and responding to common childhood medical emergencies. This qualification does not fulfil Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders.
-
2-Day Paediatric First Aid:
We offer two options for the 2-Day Paediatric First Aid course to accommodate different learning preferences. Both options cover the same topics comprehensively. One option includes Blended Learning, where Day 1 is completed online in bitesize chunks or a straight 6-hour session, followed by a 1-day classroom session. The other option is a traditional 2-day classroom course. Participants will learn about paediatric CPR, managing choking incidents, treating injuries specific to children, and recognizing signs of serious illness. This course is aimed at anyone who works in a registered setting with 0-14 year olds, child minding, playgroups, nurseries and out of school settings and meets Ofstead and EYFS requirements.
-
Half-Day Paediatric First Aid Refresher:
This non-mandatory update is available for participants who have completed the 2-Day Paediatric First Aid course. It serves to refresh and update their skills and knowledge, ensuring they remain up-to-date with any changes in first aid guidelines. The refresher course is recommended at the end of Year 1 and Year 2.
Onelife Training also offer a course specifically tailored to parents, grandparents and caregivers:
Half-Day First Aid for Parents:
This course offers practical first aid skills for addressing common childhood emergencies. Participants will learn how to respond to choking incidents, manage minor injuries, and recognise signs of illness in children. This course is ideal for parents and grandparents looking to enhance their first aid knowledge and confidence in caring for their children.
Accreditation and employer benefits:
It is essential to note that the top courses we offer are fully accredited. This means that they meet the highest standards set by regulatory bodies and industry experts. For employers, choosing accredited first aid courses demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of their staff and clients. It also provides assurance that their employees receive training that meets recognised standards of excellence.
Choosing the right course:
When selecting a first aid course for childcare, consider the specific requirements of your childcare setting and the ages of the children under your care. Choose a course that covers topics relevant to caring for infants and children, such as paediatric CPR, choking relief, and recognising signs of serious illness. Verify that the course is taught by qualified instructors and meets recognised standards for first aid training.
Investing in appropriate first aid training is essential for childcare providers to ensure the safety and well-being of the children under their care. By completing a Paediatric Emergency First Aid course tailored to your needs, childcare professionals and parents can be better prepared to handle medical emergencies effectively and provide a safe environment for children.
