When it comes to CPR, one size does not fit all.

In this latest video from our First Aid FAQ series, Nigel explains the crucial difference between performing CPR on an adult and on a child. This isn’t just about technique, it’s about saving lives.

What’s the key difference?
Adults are more likely to suffer from cardiac arrest, so compressions come first. Children, however, are more likely to experience respiratory failure before their heart stops. This means your response needs to be different – and fast.

The reason for starting with rescue breaths in children is simple but vital: if the child’s heart is still beating but they aren’t breathing, oxygen is the priority.

This adjustment in approach could make the difference between life and death.
