Applying a sling can feel like quite a technical first aid skill. But it doesn’t need to be.
In this video, the focus is simple – support the position the casualty is already in.
Start with the Casualty
Before doing anything:
- How are they holding their arm?
- What feels comfortable?
You’re not trying to reposition them – you’re supporting them.
Key Practical Points
- Keep the arm supported at all times
- Move slowly and communicate clearly
- Make sure the hand and elbow are covered
- Tie to the side (not over the spine)
It’s Not About Perfection
One of the biggest worries people have is “am I doing this right?”
The answer is – if it’s:
- Comfortable
- Supported
- Not causing pain
You’re doing it right.
Common Mistake
Trying to lift or adjust the arm into a “better” position.
If it hurts – don’t move it.
