First Aid at Work: 2 Day Requalification Course

Who’s it for?

This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of first aid situations.

To attend the 2 Day Re-qualification course, you must have either of the following;

  • A current 3 Day First Aid at Work certificate that is still current.
  • Your existing 3 Day First Aid at Work certificate has expired, no more than 1 calendar month.
  • Your existing 3 Day First Aid at work certificate has expired, more than 1 but no less than 3 calendar months, as long as you have proof of attending your annual refresher training.

On initial and re-qualification courses, all practical and theoretical assessments must be passed to gain the qualification.

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training.
There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.

Day 1 – Unit 1 – Emergency First Aid in the Workplace

  • Roles and responsibilities of First Aider
  • Incident and Casualty Assessment
  • CPR & AED
  • Unconscious casualty breathing normally -Recovery Position
  • Management of a seizure
  • Choking casualty
  • Shock
  • External Bleeding
  • Minor injuries
  • Written Assessments – Multiple choice
  • Issue any homework reading

Day 2 – Unit 2 – Management of Illness and Injury in the Workplace

  • Poisons
  • Asthma
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Chest Injuries
  • Angina & Heart Attack
  • Stroke “Brain Attack”
  • Fractures/Dislocations/Sprains & Strains
  • Spinal Injuries
  • Head Injuries (Concussion, Compression, Fracture Skull)
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Secondary survey
  • Eye Injuries
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Written Assessments – Multiple choice

How long?

2 Days 9.00- 4.00 – 12 Hours

Qualification:

On completion of a written & practical assessment you will receive
QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work 2 Credits (RQF) – Certificate valid for 3 years.

First Aid at Work 2 Day Requalification (Blended Learning)

Who’s it for?

The qualification is designed for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide First Aid when dealing with an emergency situation.

What is Blended Learning?

Day 1 is completed online, you can either complete this in a day or complete this over a few bit size sessions, as long as it is completed prior to the Day 2 classroom session.

Day 1 – Online 6 Hours Pre Learning

  • Introduction to the course

  • Asthma (including respiratory system)
  • Hyperventilation
  • Burns and Scalds (including electrical and chemical burns)
  • Eye Injuries
  • Poisons
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Chest Injuries
  • Circulatory System
  • Heart Conditions
  • Stroke
  • Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains
  • Spinal Injuries

Day 2 – 2 Day Face to Face Classroom Session

  • Assembly and Introductions
  • Unresponsive casualty not breathing normally – CPR & AED learner practice – Assessment
  • Unconscious casualty breathing normally – Recovery Position (inc. seizure management) – Assessment.
  • Choking casualty – Assessment
  • External bleeding including treatment for shock and bandaging – Assessment
  • Catastrophic bleeding
  • Minor Injuries
  • Fractures treatment – slings – Assessment
  • Head Injuries (concussion/compression/fractured skull)
  • Spinal Injuries/MILS/Spinal Recovery position – Assessment
  • Top to toe survey (theory covered in pre learning) – Assessment
  • Unit 1 and Unit 2 MCQ Assessments
